Process Technology
Drinking water is mainly disinfected with chlorine gas,
sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite and chlorine
dioxide. For this purpose Siemens Water Technologies supplies
suitable process equipment for a variety of applications:
Dosing of chlorine is
one of the simplest methods of disinfecting water. With
so-called indirect chlorination a chlorine solution
is prepared on site from chlorine gas and water and
added to the water. The chlorine gas can also be added
directly to the water by means of remote vacuum dosing
units.
Chlorine dioxide has a number of advantages in comparison
with chlorine: Its effectiveness in eliminating bacteria,
spores and viruses is in part superior, it has a deodorising
effect and it does not form trihalomethanes.
The Siemens Water Technologies range features a DIOX
series which comprises systems for the production
of chlorine dioxide:
Chlorine dioxide preparation in accordance with the hydrochloric
acid process, with diluted or concentrated solutions depending
on the performance requirements: DIOX-A 10, DIOX-A 250,
DIOX-A 5000
Chlorine dioxide preparation in accordance with the
chlorine process: DIOX-C 4500
The designation OSEC®
indicates all chlorine electrolysis systems supplied
by Siemens Water Technologies.
The OSEC®-NXT range covers capacities up t 60 kg per day. In addition the range also features the following OSEC® systems:
Membrane-free tubular cell electrolyser: OSEC®-B
Membrane-free tubular cell electrolyser for sea
water: OSEC®-S
Electrolyser system for smaller capacities: OSEC®-A
If no chemicals are to be used at all, there is the disinfection
option with UV
radiation , which is also used as a secondary application.
Mobile
chlorination systems are suitable for temporary applications,
available in different sizes depending on requirements,
and which are manufactured individually for use with various
disinfectants.
